The recent economic plunge has pushed unemployment for single mothers to levels not seen in more than 25 years. The national unemployment rate was 9.5 percent in July but much higher among single mothers and minorities:Married men with spouse: 6.6 percent
White men: 8.8 percent
White women: 7.1 percent
Black men: 16.7 percent
Black women 12.9 percent
Hispanic women: 12.1 percent
Hispanic men: 10.2 percent
Single mothers: 13.4 percent
National average: 9.5 percent
